Drawer Hardware Placement
Drawer Hardware Centered
New cabinetry is installed and it is time to install the hardware. Time for another decision. The most common placement for drawer hardware is in the center middle of each drawer - which is honestly the one that I personally favor. Images DH1 and DH2 show each drawer pull positioned in the center of each drawer.
Two Hardware Pulls Per Drawer
For wider width drawers, it may make sense to do 2 pulls per drawer. Imagine each drawer divided into 2 halves - each pull should be centered on each side. This is not the only way to do 2 pulls, but I think it is the most straight forward way to be consistent across multiple cabinets. Also, it creates symmetry in the placement of the pulls. See image DH3. What width cabinets does it make sense to do 2 pulls per drawer? Cabinets that are at least 27” wide - I would say. That being said - not a right or wrong answer. Just make sure your decision is consistent across all cabinetry in the space. Take your hardware budget into consideration when deciding to use 2 pulls per drawer for the wider width drawers. Hardware costs will add up quickly.
Other Drawer Hardware Placements
Another option for drawer hardware placement is to put the drawer pull on the top part of the drawer if it is a framed drawer. Images DH4 and DH5 are examples of hardware pulls placed in the center on the top drawer slabs. In image DH4 which is a 3 drawer base cabinet, the bottom 2 drawers have framed fronts that have pulls positioned on the top rail of each drawer. Then the DH5 trash cabinet base with a top drawer with a slab front and the bottom is the pullout. The pull is usually placed at the top of such a pullout component such as trash or other types of pullouts.
