Uplighting Solution for Floating Shelf

DESIRED OUTCOME: Up lighting inside shelf to radiate light in the shelf surface. A lot of lighting on shelving is down lighting or lighting placed in the back or front of the shelf.

SOLUTION: Create a shelf with an area for the lighting inside the shelf. These shelves were designed to use Evo-Lite Auragami lite sheets installed under glass. Both lite sheets and glass were installed on site. This created illumination under the glass so that all objects on the glass become illuminated from the bottom. I specified and designed this shelf for HOVR brackets that have weight specifications.

Coming up with this solution took time and innovation. I scoured the web for ideas and came up blank. Creating down lighting is simple and used often. Also, creating lighting in the front or back of the shelf is straight forward. However, creating illumination directly under objects requires the light source to be directly under the objects. So the light source is required to be under glass or other such material that illumination can come through. In my search I came across the Evo-Lite Auragami lite sheets - check them out and see the many cool and flexible design applications that these can be used. Another idea for these sheets is under a translucent stone such as ONYX countertops.

My design solution above is an approach to creating uplighting under objects. Design often involves finding solutions to desired outcomes. The image below is the shelving installed with the Evo-Lite Auragami Lite sheets.

Here are the finished shelves installed with the Auragami lite sheets.
